Knowleaf talks to Carry of California Dab Company at the Sonoma County Hall of Flowers in September 2019.
Carry talked about the journey of working in the dab industry and its evolution. From back in the day vape creation, to current lab testing amping out the industry’s product quality.
How long have you been in the industry?
We’ve been the industry for almost 20 years now. I’ve been in a tree for five years so I handle the business side of things and then my partners are the flower side.
Working in LA what are some of the reasons why you got into working with dabs with the company you are with today? What did you do before?
I was around a while ago back before there were even vape cartridges really. I started, with flowers, you know the regular flower when the wax was like black and bubbling and not purged and killed people but you know we also kept smoking it. Now everything is so clean and I love that about this industry, everything’s so transparent with all the test results. People are putting out quality products and you know making it easily accessible for clean meds instead of the guests in check. Back in the day if your ash was black you probably got something bad in it. Now it’s like everyone’s ash white. Now it’s like well everyone has white ash because everyone’s been tested for all those bad things
What do you do with all the brands you see at Hall of Flowers?
You’ll walk through if you have a branded t-shirt on and you can like cut the tension with a knife so there are definitely brands out there that have animosity towards other brands. They feel like they’re a competitor and taking away their money but this industry is huge you know we got an alcohol industry that’s massive and you know the people brew and other people’s brews and they’re all getting along. I’ll try each other’s stuff so I think that’s how the cannabis industry should be. There are too many people that go out there and hate on other brands and I’m like you know if your brand has a good vape cartridge I’m gonna tell you you have a good vape cartridge. Eden Flower out there, I’m like you have a really good cartridge. It’s like well thank you, he’s like I really like your ease actually let’s do a collab.
What are some ways you collaborate with people?
So it just depends like what the brand wants to do some brands want you to put your name on their packaging and everything do a little co-brand like that.
You’ve been in the industry for a very long time, what is it like now knowing that it’s changing?
I’m all for it you know it’s been fun yeah I’ve liked all the changes it’s crazy to see brands that were 10-20 years back. The originators of the industry in California have been completely squeezed out of the industry because they couldn’t adapt to the changing market it’s a very different market. I used to walk into a shop and you’re talking to someone that’s in charge of buying your product right there right in front of you now it’s like oh email us.
